Dear Parents,

I am so grateful to those of you (about  60%) who responded to the questionnaire. If you click here you can see the results. Next week we hope to send out a digest of all the additional comments that were made. The information we have gleaned from the survey is very useful to us in moving the school forward. I will be holding focus groups on the areas which have substantial disagreement. I am so pleased that only two students were not happy, but very concerned about the results for bullying and behaviour. The focus groups plus staff and governor discussion will lead to action in some of these areas.

I am particularly grateful to the group of parents who came to a meeting about self esteem and participation. I am sorry that I have not previously reported on the changes that have been made as a result of this. One big change is that all teachers are now keeping a record of Headteacher awards and times when children are chosen for events. Another change is that when we need a team for a special sporting event, e.g. this week’s Olympics team, a group of children who are not in our first football, netball or hockey squad were chosen to represent our school. We also plan to change the last day of school awards so that children in Year 6 receive a certificate which reflects their virtues and contributions to school life. All children will receive this award. We will continue to cut down on the number of sporting and other awards to individuals. The drama club held a small production at the end of last term; this was only for members who had come to that club. These are just a few of the changes which have occurred. We will continue to seek to improve in this way.

At Holy Trinity Pewley Down we really strive to be constantly listening and acting to make our school better for children and parents. Please continue to give us feedback as we pursue this task.

Tennis Balls
As we hit our summer sports we seem to manage to get through a lot of tennis balls! If anyone has any tennis balls that may be past their best for use on court but may still be good for practising rounders and cricket drills, please leave them at the office for us. That would be great, thanks.

Sainsburys & Tesco Vouchers  (7,800 JS and 2,500 Tesco already received with thanks.)
We are collecting these and there are collection boxes in reception.  Last year we collected over 30,000 and we managed to use these to get a lot of new equipment for the kitchen in Year 4. This year we have only received around 8,000. Sainsburys have stopped handing the vouchers out so if you have any at home, please bring them in to school ASAP.  To give you an idea: cricket bats (a set of 4) = 290 vouchers; Skipping ropes (set of 6) = 160 vouchers and a bat and ball set = 6,000 vouchers. Thank you.

London Marathon

Fiona Durrant (Alastair, Yr 2)  is running the London Marathon on 22nd April for AbleChildAfrica.  AbleChildAfrica specialises exclusively in advocating for and supporting disabled children and disabled young people in Africa and works with partner organisations in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.To celebrate Fiona's achievements and to raise money for AbleChildAfrica we are holding a cake and book sale with tea and coffee at 3 Cranley Road, on Saturday 28th April from 2 - 4.  If you have any books you would like to donate then please drop them off at 3 Cranley Road OR give them to one of us at school.   And, most importantly, please do come and buy some cakes and books all for a great cause.  Thanks very much indeed, Clare Twigger-Ross (Hattie Yr 3, Alice Yr 6), Susanna Hoar (Martha Y4, Elspeth Y2) and Fiona Durrant (Alastair, Yr2)

Holy Trinity Church Choir
Directed by Martin Holford, is in an exciting stage of development and looking for new members – boys between 6 and 13 who can commit to regular services .  They currently practise at the church on Thursdays between 6.30 and 8pm and sing in one service on Sundays.  There will be an open rehearsal/bring a buddy session on Thursday 3rd May at Holy Trinity church at 6.30, a relaxed session where anyone who is interested can just come along and see what it is all about.  Please contact Martin Holford, Choirmaster on mholford1966@gmail.com or on 01483 576500
