20 December 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you so much for your Christmas greetings and gifts to the staff team; we’re all so appreciative and grateful to you for your kindness. I know you’ll want to join me in thanking the whole staff team for another fantastic term. They are all so committed to making the school the very best it can be and are ready for a well-deserved rest! I hope that your children feel proud of all that they’ve achieved this term. Thank you also for your generosity in contributing to this year’s Besom Hamper collection; we were delighted to be able to send off 18 luxury hampers bursting with Christmas treats earlier in the week, knowing that they’ll be making several Guildford families feel really cared for.

Across all the year groups, we’ve enjoyed celebrating the message of God’s love at Christmas during this last week of term. Thank you to Year 1 who led our Christmas carol service for the infants – it was just lovely. And also to our amazing dancers, thoughtful pray-ers and dramatic poetry readers who helped inspire the junior school at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday afternoon. The singing at both services was so enthusiastic this year and made me feel so proud of the team that is HTPD!

With the end of term finally here, I hope that you and your children have a wonderful, peaceful and happy holiday! The children start back for the Spring Term on Tuesday 7th January with the staff working together during the day before to plan for an exciting 2020! Until then, Happy Christmas to you all!

With best wishes, Clare

Whole School

The spring term starts on Tuesday 7 January.

Thank you – for your generous donations following the infant and junior Christmas plays. After expenses we have raised a total of £1315 for Surrey Mental Health Fund.

Part-time vacancy
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated After Schools Club Deputy to assist with leading our thriving extended school provision on 2 afternoons (Thursdays and Fridays) between 3.00 and 6.00 pm (6 hours per week) at our Junior Site reporting to the Manager After Schools Club. Ideally we would like a teacher who is looking for a change or new challenge or an experienced Playworker (Level 3 qualified with at least a year’s experience) to plan interesting activities, provide a range of activities daily including outdoor play and opportunities to relax or do homework.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who recently attended Clare's safeguarding briefings. Bev has emailed all of you during the week to either confirm that we have your details on the school single central register or with instructions of how to apply for a DBS through the school. If you have any queries, please do contact her on

13 December 2019

Dear Parents and Carers

What a fantastic week it’s been! It was wonderful to see the children at both the infants and the juniors performing their Christmas shows. When the country has been so absorbed by politics, it was great to experience such exuberance, joy and hope. I’m sure you’ll agree, the applause was well earned! I was also delighted to see how much money we will be able to donate to the Surrey Mental Health Fund – once expenses have been covered, we’ll be giving a sizeable sum to this much needed cause! Thank you for your generosity.

Today’s optional late start gave some a much needed rest, but those who arrived on time at the juniors were treated to our annual “late start assembly” with Christmas stories, songs, and readings accompanied by teachers treating children to a hilarious re-enactment of Jesus’ Christmas party and the final visit from Sue Prano, our opera expert! Both sites also enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner – with raucous singing of We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

Next week, we will be walking to Holy Trinity Church for the infants carol service on Thursday morning and for the juniors on Thursday afternoon. Do join us if you’d like to share in our Christmas celebrations. We will be ending a term of looking for wisdom by considering the mystery of the incarnation, where Jesus, God’s son, was born in poverty in a manger. I’m hoping we’ll all gain a better understanding of heavenly wisdom as we contemplate the wonder of “God with us” at Christmas time.

We’d love to invite our parent helpers into school for a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine as a small token of our gratitude to the team of people who have made such a difference this term. At Pewley this will take place on Thursday straight after returning from Holy Trinity and at the juniors it will be at 12.30 on Thursday lunchtime, just before we set off. Please let your child’s class teacher or the office staff know if you are planning to come.

I’m sure I’ll see many of you tomorrow at the Pewley Christmas Fair. Have a great weekend!

With best wishes, Clare

I've been watching 4N and 3A take part in their school swimming lessons this term and I've been interested to learn more about the new curriculum. Swim England have lots of information about what is taught in school swimming and there is a whole section of their website just for parents. They advise that all children should be swimming outside of school as well as taking part in school swimming.

If your child is not currently swimming outside of school and you would like some advice about where to book please contact me on:

Spectrum Leisure Centre and Surrey Sports Park are two local venues that offer swimming lessons after school and at the weekends. Both run excellent swimming schools for primary aged children.

06 December 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

How lovely to be celebrating Advent at last! In assembly, our Advent candles shone out in the early morning gloom and reminded us all of the hope brought into the world at Christmas time! The children have been thinking about shining God’s light in really practical ways – sharing a smile, being kind, using nice words and spotting when someone needs our help.

Next week we welcome all of you to be our audiences for the Christmas shows. This year at all of the performances, once we’ve covered our costs, we’ll be raising money for a new charity,
The Surrey Mental Health Fund . This is providing such an excellent resource to primary schools where early intervention for anxiety and poor mental health is known to help support children and young people before things get to a crisis. Also, at our evening performances at the juniors, do take a look at this year’s HTSC “Tree of Wishes” which has an art and DT theme. We’d love to re-equip our art room in time for a new term.

It’s always a very special week, but the children do get extremely tired. Please make sure that they get enough sleep! At the juniors, although most after school clubs are still on, I’d recommend children head home at 3.15pm if that’s possible – it’s a long week of late nights.

On Friday 13th we have our optional late start. The children can come into school anytime up to 10.30am. At the juniors, they should come straight into the hall for a candle-lit Christmas assembly, and at the infants they can go to their classrooms as usual. It allows for a bit of a lie-in for any children who are worn out after a week of being on stage!

Finally, a reminder that we will be enjoying Christmas dinner at both sites next week (Thursday at the infants and Friday at the juniors). If your children are not having a school lunch, they might like to have a festive theme to their packed lunch…and they’d all be welcome to wear a Christmas hat, jumper or sprig of tinsel too!

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: “Smiling faces make you happy!” Proverbs 15, v30. A smile costs nothing.

Please take the opportunity over the Christmas holidays to check your child's PE kit still fits them, especially their trainers. Children need their PE kit with them in school all week and during the spring term they will also benefit from a house fleece and a pair of tracksuit bottoms or leggings as well as their regular PE kit.

Sports fixtures have now finished for the year. This term over 150 Holy Trinity children have taken part in 23 fixtures, competing against other schools in hockey, dodgeball, football, netball and cross county running.

Next term we are looking forward to Sportshall athletics for all year groups and also playing in some tag rugby tournaments and hockey matches.

We'd like to thank all the parents who have helped with lift shares to fixtures and for all the support you have given school sport, we really could not give these opportunities to children without your help.

Please can I remind everyone who has borrowed kit to return it before the end of term, the cupboard is looking quite bare!

The first thing this week is a number of thankyous, so here goes:

Last Friday year 1 had a record breaking cake sale making over £100 for one sale - we believe this is the first time this has ever happened (though are happy to be proven wrong!)

Thank you to everyone who helped out at Elf, and to everyone who came and made it such a successful afternoon - it was very busy in that school hall which was excellent and we think we made around £400 profit.

Then thank you to Ana and Kayleigh for the successful wreath making evening yesterday, and for everyone who came along to get creative.

And lastly, thank you to everyone who has contributed to the collection days for the Christmas Fair over the past few days. We are still short on sweets for the booty bags but are happy for them to be donated as ready made up booty bags this week too…..

Christmas Fair 14th December, 3-5.30pm
STILL Wanted - Santa’s grotto helper…... Santa is going to be really really uncomfortable in his grotto this year. Please can someone help him by making up his lovely grotto - let know if you can help…...

Volunteers for the Christmas Fair - we are not even a third of the slots full :( As with previous years, each year group have rooms/stalls allocated which we need volunteers to cover for. All slots are on the sign up sheet (here) together, so please do have a look and prioritise the ones for your year group, but you also have the chance to help out on stalls designated to other year groups. And don’t worry, if you can’t make the fair you can always help with the set up :)

Raffle tickets are in the book bags, please sell sell sell as this will be the single biggest earner for the event.

Timings - On the day we have a couple of treats for you:

At 3.30 the choir from HT will be singing for us From 4.00 hot food (Christmas rolls and sausage/veggie sausage baps) will be served, please pre order here so we have an idea of numbers. If you have special dietary requirements please contact us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.

At 5.00 we will be drawing the raffle, with the top prize a child’s Giant bike and accessories worth up to £300.

Foreign Currency
The collection pot in reception is looking really positive and hopefully we can send it off in the New Year for turning into pounds. It would be amazing if we could make one a term …..

If you, friends or family are away over Christmas please do remember to keep your left over coins and bring them into the school for us to use towards school facilities.
