Dear Parents and Carers

What a fantastic week it’s been! It was wonderful to see the children at both the infants and the juniors performing their Christmas shows. When the country has been so absorbed by politics, it was great to experience such exuberance, joy and hope. I’m sure you’ll agree, the applause was well earned! I was also delighted to see how much money we will be able to donate to the Surrey Mental Health Fund – once expenses have been covered, we’ll be giving a sizeable sum to this much needed cause! Thank you for your generosity.

Today’s optional late start gave some a much needed rest, but those who arrived on time at the juniors were treated to our annual “late start assembly” with Christmas stories, songs, and readings accompanied by teachers treating children to a hilarious re-enactment of Jesus’ Christmas party and the final visit from Sue Prano, our opera expert! Both sites also enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner – with raucous singing of We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

Next week, we will be walking to Holy Trinity Church for the infants carol service on Thursday morning and for the juniors on Thursday afternoon. Do join us if you’d like to share in our Christmas celebrations. We will be ending a term of looking for wisdom by considering the mystery of the incarnation, where Jesus, God’s son, was born in poverty in a manger. I’m hoping we’ll all gain a better understanding of heavenly wisdom as we contemplate the wonder of “God with us” at Christmas time.

We’d love to invite our parent helpers into school for a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine as a small token of our gratitude to the team of people who have made such a difference this term. At Pewley this will take place on Thursday straight after returning from Holy Trinity and at the juniors it will be at 12.30 on Thursday lunchtime, just before we set off. Please let your child’s class teacher or the office staff know if you are planning to come.

I’m sure I’ll see many of you tomorrow at the Pewley Christmas Fair. Have a great weekend!

With best wishes, Clare

If your child is taking part in the Sportshall competitions in January please don't forget that Y3&4 will be having a practice on Wednesday 8th Jan and Y5&6 will be having their two practice sessions next Tuesday 17th Dec and Friday 10th Jan.

I've been watching 4N and 3A take part in their school swimming lessons this term and I've been interested to learn more about the new curriculum. Swim England have lots of information about what is taught in school swimming and there is a whole section of their website just for parents. They advise that all children should be swimming outside of school as well as taking part in school swimming.

https://www.swimming.org/schools/parents-and-pupils/

If your child is not currently swimming outside of school and you would like some advice about where to book please contact me on: lauras@htpd.surrey.sch.uk.

Spectrum Leisure Centre and Surrey Sports Park are two local venues that offer swimming lessons after school and at the weekends. Both run excellent swimming schools for primary aged children.
