HTPD 13/1/17

13 January 2017

Dear Parents,

With this week’s assembly theme being the eternal nature of God’s love, some of the children have been captivated by ideas of eternity, time and forever. As well as grappling with this enormous subject, we’ve enjoyed thinking about living life fully every day, in every moment. I hope that, despite the effect on the traffic, the difficulties it brings to getting home and the slipperiness underfoot, you managed to see “heaven in the moment” with our sudden arrival of snow! There is always something magical about the blanketing of the earth in white and for our younger children, it will have been their first experience of snowfall. It reminded me of how exciting the world is for children, with new discoveries around every corner. I hope that if the snow stays around for a while, we can all see it through child-like eyes.

I do need to remind all of you please to be vigilant on the roads around school, both pedestrians and car drivers. We had a couple of near misses this week and I am so concerned to keep the children safe as they arrive and leave both sites. Please keep pavements clear when you park and please treat each other respectfully, driving slowly and carefully so that you have time to react to children in the road. Especially with dark evenings, please be particularly careful when picking up from after school clubs.

This term’s topics are now well underway and, having spent a week making sure I visited all the classrooms, I am delighted to say how enthusiastically the children have settled back into learning. Do keep a close eye on the year group “just to let you know” (JTLYK) pages as they really help you to know what’s happening and support learning at home. Using the information, you can then ask your children to tell you about a particular aspect of their week. Have a great weekend!

With best wishes

Year 2 Leavers Book
Yes it's only just 2017 but before we know it we will be saying goodbye to Year 2. In past years Yr 2 pupils have had their own Leavers Book of memories to treasure but to make this happen we need a group of Year 2 parents to produce it. If you can help please let your class reps know and we can get you started.

Healthy snacks
One way we encourage the children to make healthy choices is at break time. Can I remind you that it is our policy only to have healthy snacks - fruit or vegetables. One of the problems with the unhealthy options is the wrappers which inevitably seem to get dropped all around the school grounds. Let’s try to instil healthy eating patterns right through the school.

This is a final reminder that if you have a child due to start school in September 2017 (Year R) or a child in Year 2 transferring to junior school, the deadline for applications is Sunday 15th January. Online applications can be made via Surrey County Council’s website:  www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions.
