Junior 17/7/15

17 July 2015

Dear Parents,

I so enjoyed the picnic on Wednesday and meeting up with a group of parents afterwards. It is a humbling and moving experience having so many people expressing their gratitude and love. If you haven’t had a chance to say goodbye, I’m sure it would be okay to come along this evening at 7.00 to the chapel. The other event upcoming is the Thanksgiving Service at Holy Trinity Church for years 2-6. There are usually about 75 seats available for parents. I do hope I will be able to see very many of you.

This evening one speaker will be my close friend Canon Derek Holbird, who is the Director of Education for Guildford Diocese. He was once asked to speak at a service for our teachers on the theme of ‘what is heaven like’. This was to tie in with our School value of ‘seeing heaven in the moment’. Derek was previously headteacher of C of E school on Soho Square in London. He told us it was a bit like Soho – full of colour, variety, great food and diversity of people.

After being at Holy Trinity Pewley Down for twenty five years, I think I can say that Heaven is a bit like our school. Not in every way of course-just a few of the myriad shafts of light from a diamond. HTPD is at its frequent best a place filled with joy and laughter, hope and hardwork, compassion and creativity. Where relationships are cherished, there is room to make mistakes as well as to excel and a place where Jesus is at the centre of our thoughts, motivation, values and vision. I am so grateful to God that I have had the joy of being a part of this little bit of heaven and my prayer is that all within the School Community (and that includes those who have ever been a part of it!) will continue to know that God’s presence and love here.

There will be a newsletter on Tuesday where I can say goodbye to you properly.

With best wishes, Richard

HTPD Celebration Picnic
We had a lovely celebration picnic up on the downs. Thank you to all who attended and also for being so generous with your cakes. Thank you also to Guildford Borough Council for allowing us to meet as a whole school in such a stunning environment. The GBC representative complimented us on the calm and happy occasion. This is a wonderful resource on our doorstep and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to use and enjoy it, but also to consider volunteering with the Pewley Down Volunteers who help with the conservation work. Thank you to the cooks at both sites who worked so hard to make the picnic a great success.

Zeroing in - not
As of yesterday, 16th, amounts outstanding on school accounts totals £7,090, which is hardly different to last week. Not so great with only 2 school days of the year to go. Pretty dire really. Please settle your accounts so we can close our books next week. Please add on credit for the last few lunches and clubs. Leavers with credit balances will be refunded (or credit passed to siblings). Thanks a lot!! If you have any queries, please contact Lesley and Flora – finance@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

There are many wonderful opportunities to be involved in netball at the Surrey Sport Park with great coaching as an introduction to netball or you can become a member of the Storm Club who run sessions on a Saturday morning. Please check out the website for more details

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped out this year whether it was by coming along to events, helping to organise events or being a class rep or part of the HTSC committee. We have had a very successful year raising about £20,000 for the school and organising some fantastic events which have been well supported.

A big thank you to Cavenders – a local Sales & Lettings Agent – they have kindly sponsored our big events this year donating our top prizes or giving a significant donation towards the event.

If you are thinking of Letting or Selling your property, Please contact Cavenders on 01483 457728 or info@cavenders.co.uk to discuss how they can help you.

Another big thank you goes to Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, Guildford who have supported us for the last few years.

Class Representatives & HTSC Committee - next academic year
A huge thank you to Ant Isaacs our treasurer for the last few years, Ant has decided to stand down this year so we are looking for a new treasurer.

Treasurer - The role would suit someone with a good financial background possibly an accountant but this is not essential. They do need to be pretty comfortable with accounting, keep records and be well organised. They also need to be able to commit the time required. Main areas:
Managing the cash for the PTA (banking and payments) - they would be the signatory
Directly support the three main events Bonfire, Christmas and Summer Fair
Prepare the year end accounts
Keep a track of the profits and cash flow over the academic year
Support Sainsbury's voucher team

Class Reps - You will soon know which class your child is in next year, perhaps you might consider taking on the role of class rep next year?

There are usually two reps per class who provide the vital link between the class & the PTA. The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as the PTA really wouldn’t function without them. We always love to see new faces & hear new ideas, as we know there are new parents coming in, who were involved in their previous school PTA. It is also a great way to find out about the school, how it works and meet other parents. In each Year Group, we aim to have 6 Class Reps - ideally at least 2 per class. The Class Reps in each Year Group work together as a team sharing the Class Rep responsibilities & organising socials for each Year Group as a whole.
