HTPD 14/7/17

14 July 2017

Dear parents

As I write Year 6 are walking to Shere ready to have lunch at the half way point on the Trinity Trek. I reflected with the junior school in assembly this morning, that this expedition is a great metaphor for all that is meant by “Learn to Live”. The children have to walk a good long way which is a big challenge for some, spend the whole day with their friends, walking alongside, sharing memories and getting excited together about their future, before they then prepare a meal together, cooking over a trangia stove. It’s always a brilliant day and a great way to celebrate the end of their time at HTPD. We also enjoyed a special leavers’ service for Year 6 at the beautiful St Mary’s church and were able to share with parents some of the highlights of their children’s time at the school.

The other year groups have also all been very busy this week finishing off topics and getting ready for the final week of term. I really enjoyed the Year 2 dinosaur museum this morning – and loved watching the children proudly showing their stunning work to their museum visitors. Yesterday Year 3 entertained their guests at the World War II tea party. Their singing of wartime songs and recitals of letters, poems and newspaper reports reflected how much they have learned this term! And of course we also had a great sports day at both sites on Tuesday. Thank you so much to all of you for making these events so special – I really do appreciate how involved you are in your children’s experiences at school.

Next week we’re looking forward to two international days on Monday and Tuesday when we hope to celebrate our links with countries all over the world. If your child speaks another language, do encourage them to chat to their teacher about it and share their talents with the class, as well as telling stories of their international links. Celebration afternoon on Wednesday will give the opportunity for you to visit your child’s class, chat about their end of year report which you should have received yesterday, and even pop in to visit your child’s new classroom and meet their new teacher. I hope you have enjoyed reading the end of year summary of all that your child has achieved this year; having read them all, I am so proud of their efforts and progress. It’s been a very purposeful and enjoyable year!

Enjoy the weekend!

With best wishes,

As we are only being supplied with fruit for the children on Monday and Tuesday, it would be lovely if your child could bring in a piece each day for the remainder of the week.

Year 2 Leavers’ Assembly, Wednesday 19 July, 9:30am
All Year 2 parents are invited to attend the Leavers’ Assembly on Wednesday 19th July. They are also invited to the Celebration afternoon the same day, but we understand if, following the Leavers’ Assembly in the morning, you would rather wait to look at children’s books when they come home at the end of the week.

Library Books
Please have a look round at home and return any school library or reading books before the end of term.

Run to Sochi
We have made it to Sochi and back………...we ran a total of 3870 miles! The top three boys and girls who ran the furthest received their stickers in assembly this week. Well done everyone! We will be choosing a new place to run to in the autumn term.

FOPS News (Infant PTA)

Thank You
A big thank you to everyone who has helped out with FOPS this year. From all our hardworking class reps, volunteers and families who have supported the various events and sales - we couldn't have done it without you!

Together we have raised in excess of £9,000 and have funded a wide range of teaching resources and equipment including the rejuvenated outdoor classrooms and essential maths, science and English equipment. Next year sees an ongoing commitment from FOPS to develop the Early Years provision at school - so definitely exciting times ahead!

New FOPS Committee Needed
We are looking for a new chair or a small group of chair persons to take over running FOPS from September. Can YOU help? It’s a great opportunity to get involved with the school community, raise funds, organise social events and make great changes for all our children a reality. With educational budgets tightening the fund raising role of the PTA is becoming more and more vital so please consider it carefully. To find out more please email Jill, Nicci or Sue or nab us for a chat.

We are also on the lookout for new class reps. Please advise your current reps if you would like to take on this role next year.

FOPS Sponsor
Please don’t forget Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford (our major sponsor now for the third year running) will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about either, please get in contact with them www.cavenders.co.uk.

Save the Date
Friday 21st July – Yr 1 End of year parents party 8pm-12am at 33 Tangier Road, GU1 2DF, thank you to the McClungs for hosting.

A huge thank you to all the class reps for all they have done this year, we have had some brilliant events and raised a fantastic sum of money for the school.

Now you know which class your child is in next year, perhaps you might consider taking on the role of class rep? The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as the PTA really wouldn’t function without them. If you would like to know more about what the role involves or volunteer your services, please contact Ros Vickerman rosalindvickerman@yahoo.com or Carrie Witts carriewitts@gmail.com

The venue for the Year 6 parents end of year drinks has been changed from Rogues to Cat Allan's house - 9 Waterden Road GU1 2AN (100 yards from Rogues). The start time is 7.30pm onwards.

Please bring a bottle and a dish of food to share and we can set up a buffet table. Any queries please contact Cat on catrionaallan@yahoo.co.uk or 07817085366.

HTSC’s AGM will take place in the Chapel on Thursday 14 September straight after the HT meet the team evening. We will be receiving this year’s accounts and electing the new Committee members for the next academic year

A huge thanks to Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford, our major sponsor now for the third year running. Cavender will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about doing either, please get in contact with them www.cavenders.co.uk.
