HTPD 30/6/17

30 June 2017

Dear Parents,

Last night we had our final governors’ meeting of the term. It has been a successful year in so many ways and it was good to celebrate by reflecting on what has been achieved. We then worked hard to formulate ideas for school development, taking into account the views of parents, children and staff from the recent surveys. The governing body is made up of such a super mix of people, all of whom bring their skills and experience to their role in running the school. I’d like to publically thank them for all they do!

As I write, there is another group of people who give tirelessly to support the school working hard to get ready for the junior school fair tonight. I’m sure it’ll be a great occasion and I look forward to seeing many of you there. Can I ask you to remind your children not to use the classrooms, woods or the adventure trail – we’ve explained in assembly how keen we are to keep the children safe as well as to look after our premises! Thank you for your support in this.

Next Wednesday at the infants, we are looking forward to having our new Reception children exploring the school and meeting their new teachers. At the same time the children in current Year R and Year 1 will “move up”. It’s always an exciting day, and I’m sure the children will be keen to tell you all about the things that will be different for them in September! The teachers will have told them all about what life in Year 1 and Year 2 is like and they’ll be keen to get started! The children at the juniors will have to be patient for another couple of weeks before their “move up”.

Hope to see you at the fair!
With best wishes

A polite reminder that, for the safety of our children, dogs are not permitted on either the infant or junior sites. Please keep them out of the playgrounds and under careful supervision.

PE kits
Please check your child’s PE bag and ensure that it contains named shorts, house t-shirt and trainers which fit properly. This is particularly important with Sports Day coming up on 11 July. Year R and Year 2 children should have their PE kits in school all the time, and Year 1 children wear PE kit to school on their PE day.

Year 2 packed lunches 5 and 12 July
Children in Walnut Class should bring a packed lunch from home on Wednesday 5 July. Chestnut Class will need a packed lunch on Wednesday 12 July. These are the move-up days when new Year R children will be visiting and staying for lunch.

Ballet Club
Parents are invited to the ballet show this Thursday 6 July, 3.30pm.

Jack Williams has lost his school uniform (named shorts, polo shirt and Shackleton sweatshirt) possibly taken home in someone else’s football kit bag.

New FOPS committee needed

Another school year is drawing to an end and we are looking for a new chair or a small group of chair persons to take over running FOPS from September. Can YOU help? It’s a great opportunity to get involved with the school community, raise funds, organise social events and make great changes for all our children a reality. With educational budgets tightening the fund raising role of the PTA is becoming more and more vital so please consider it carefully. To find out more please email Jill, Nicci or Sue or nab us for a chat.

Dates for this term’s Playground sales

There's just one last Friday playground sale to go. Next Friday Willow class will be selling cookies or lollies, as the weather allows. These sales contribute massively to the overall amount FOPS raises for the school so please continue to support them!

Second-hand Uniform Sales

A massive thank you to Ozzie and Helen for organising the Second-hand Uniform sales this year. These sales are a great way of generating funds - one sale alone this week raised £40 - and they help solve the endless task of finding suitable uniform that still fits!!   NB: If you can’t make the sales but know what you are looking for, please leave details and your email address with Ruth and Ozzie will contact you.

Please don’t forget Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford (our major sponsor now for the third year running) will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about either, please get in contact with them

It’s the HT annual Summer Fair tonight and hopefully we’ll avoid the showers and it will be a warm evening – perfect for an ice cold drink from the bar and something from the BBQ. There’ll be a candy wheel, candy floss, ice-cream, jolly jars, beat the goalie and much more. The Fair runs from 6-8pm. Don’t forget your raffle ticket stubs so they can be included in the draw this evening. We look forward to seeing you there.

There will be NO PARKING at school, so please walk if possible. If you do have to drive, please park considerately.

A massive thank you to everyone who has helped so far and will be helping this evening and especially to Cavenders Sales & Lettings who have sponsored our top raffle prize of an Apple watch.

We are looking for two volunteers to take over the running of the school uniform shop. This is a role which will take a few hours a week. If you are interested in taking this on, please contact the HT office.

Are you a parent who works for a company? We are looking for parents who are willing to ask their employers about Match Funding schemes to help boost our fundraising at our summer events. If you can help, or require more information please contact Helen Day (

A huge thanks to Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford, our major sponsor now for the third year running. Cavender will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about doing either, please get in contact with them

Year 6 Leavers Parents Drinks – Saturday 15 July, Rogues from 7.30pm

Amazing Art Club: Engaging, Creating, Inspiring!
Come along and have fun learning a mixture of drawing skills, painting techniques and how to construct in 3-d ( including puppets/ mechanical objects/ paper engineering/ bookart ) whilst looking at a range of artists and applied artists for inspiration. Key to the sessions is that your child develops their own voice, sustains focus, finds solutions, explores ideas and ways of working that they find interesting whilst learning new skills and a context for their work. It is stealth learning! Sessions are run by artist Sophie Artemis See website for gallery of children's work. Sophie has 2 sons and loves making artist's books and painting (work collected by the Tate Gallery and the V&A Museum) in her studio in Guildford. This popular club has been running since 2013.  Maximum 10 spaces so book early: Starts THURSDAY 5th October, all materials included in the price. (I will be in New York hence the late start of term). For enquiries telephone 07855 622303 or email

I'm Chloe Cavender's mum year 6 and I am having 10 inches of my hair cut off to help make a wig for a child that has lost their hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses. For everyone that knows me knows how much I love my long hair but I'd like to help make a child feel happy again after losing their hair. Mavericks Hairdressing Salon in Guildford have kindly offered to cut the 10 inches off! Please help by donating, every little helps! Thank you.
