Junior 18 May 2012

18 May 2012

Dear Parents

Holy Trinity Pewley Down School has its two hundredth birthday this year. The school was originally founded in George Abbot hospital in 1812. This was just one year after the National Society had been formed to provide education for poor children throughout the country. There are now, of course many thousands of church schools but Holy Trinity was the sixth to be founded.

The school spent most of its life at the bottom of South Hill in the buildings now occupied by the short-stay school. At the start of the last century Surrey County Council took joint responsibility with the church. So the school prospered until the mid seventies when the school divided into the separate infant and junior school. We joined back together officially in 2010.

We want to contact as many former pupils as possible, especially the older ones. We have good records of the school from 1860-1920 and again from 1970-present day. We hope the last fifty years history can be filled by living memory.

We are going to celebrate the birthday during the week October 15-19th. We are also planning a high quality book about the school which should be available at Christmas. If anyone is able to help with the book; providing memorabilia and photos, typing copy, sorting through photos and archives we would be so grateful. Please let me know if you can help.

We want this to be a thanks giving to God for all his goodness to us in the past, a celebration of all that is good about the school in the present and a looking forward to a bright and exciting future – continuing to serve children of South Guildford and the villages.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
With best wishes

Next Friday, 25th May, is FLUFFY Friday please bring £1 and wear Mufti. If your child is taking part in an activity off-site, a signed consent form needs to be completed, these will be sent home for the relevant activities. We need helpers to walk children to and from the Spectrum (no need to stay) – please let Alison Tester know if you are able to help. Thanks.

Lunch Menu Week 1

Dear Parents, Elise Close (6C) is going to Sierra Leone this half term for a charity called Street Child which runs respite centres for children aged 10-18 who lead an unsafe life on the street and aims to reunite children with long lost family. Elise will be spending two days onsite at the children’s centre in Makeni and will also complete a 5km sponsored run.  The children own nothing of their own - we will be taking out with us play equipment and educational resource. If you have any clothes for young people of this age or any unwanted (robust) toys, Elise would be thrilled to take these to the Makeni centre.  Please send in a bag marked 'Street Child - Elise 6C'. If your child wanted to enclose a handwritten note, I am sure it would be delightedly received too! Many thanks, Gaby Close.
