No. 240

19 November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I had a super day on Thursday; thanks to my incredibly supportive team, I was able to spend a day away from school, taking part in a headteachers’ awayday that’s an annual event run by the Guildford Diocese. All the presentations focused on human flourishing, one of my favourite topics. It was great to reflect on the HTPD community and to ponder again what makes a school one where children, staff, whole families and indeed the wider community can flourish and live well together. We watched part of a TED talk that unpacked the following nine words: “Every person you will ever meet has infinite worth,” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9fHCrP8hZM). I hope that’s reflected in your experience of the school as we aim to ensure that every single child is treasured and loved. I learnt about a Zulu word, “ubuntu” which means humanity – it’s sometimes translated as “I am because you are.” What a lovely definition of our interconnectedness. I came back to school determined to continue to ensure that every member of our community feels that they belong.

I’m sure many of you are excitedly looking ahead to our Christmas shows and other end of term events; certainly the main casts in Year 2 and Year 6 are very busy rehearsing. We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to host live audiences, but this obviously depends on the numbers of covid infections across the school at that point in the term. We’ve still got several weeks to go and it’s hard to predict at this stage. We’ll go ahead and send out information about each performance in the next week or so, and we’ll organise ticket details, but we may have to cancel at the last minute. At both schools during the productions, we’d like you to wear masks please as it’ll be quite crowded. We’ll keep doors and windows open for ventilation and will have to limit each family to only two tickets each. We’d also ask you to take a lateral flow test just before attending. Thank you so much for understanding why we’re taking these precautions.

I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to invite so many of you in to school over the last two weeks for parent consultations – and I hope those of you that joined in on Zoom also felt it was a helpful opportunity. If you missed out on arranging a conversation, please do get in touch with your child’s teacher to make a time to chat. It’s such an important aspect of our partnership. I know that so many of you were thrilled to hear about your child’s progress – they’re really benefiting from an uninterrupted term in school. Thank you for your ongoing contribution to their learning.

It was so good in assemblies this week to think about what makes us all really happy. As we learnt about King David celebrating and praising God, we remembered how our individual lives are full of things to be glad about. I’d encourage each of us this weekend to spend some time noticing those things, to literally count our blessings. See how many you can find. “Seeing heaven in the moment” is one of our well-loved school values and, once you’ve mastered it, it really helps make a difference to your mood.

With love,
Clare

FOPS

Hi all,

Ground Force Day is this Sunday 21 November, 10am-12pm, School Grounds. The weather is set to be fine and it would be great to have as many people as possible help tidy up the outside areas of the school. Jobs range from picking up the leaves, jet washing and planting plants - something for all the family if you are able to come. Do pop in, no requirement to stay all morning. Please either sign up at https://signup.com/go/JbTnyUY or email debbiesmith@post.com or come along with a broom! We really appreciate any help you can offer.

Winter Fair, Saturday 4 December, Holy Trinity
An envelope with Winter Fair information is in book bags today. This contains raffle tickets, a letter about Donation Day (Friday 26 November) and what we require, and a sweetie bag to be filled for one of the games.

We have had some fantastic raffle prizes donated already and there will also be one hamper put together by each year group. Please see year group links below for items to go towards the hamper.

HTSC News

Hello Everyone!

Hope you all had a good week this week.

Winter Craft Evening – HT school hall, Thursday 25 November 7.45pm arrival for 8pm start.
WinterClayWS.png
HTSC and Kate Alger, esteemed local artist and Hetty & Millie’s mum, would like you to join us for a Winter clay decoration making workshop. Tickets are limited to 20 people (at time of press, we have 8 spaces left). The cost of the evening is £25 – this includes tuition by Kate, all materials and a glass of bubbles (or something soft) and hopefully some fun! Please book by emailing htsc@htpd.surrey.sch.uk. Please see Parentmail sent on Tuesday 16th Nov.

Winter Fair – Saturday 4 December 12-2.30pm at Holy Trinity Site
All the plans are coming together and thank you for the offers we have had so far for raffle prizes and for new games/stalls. If you would like a stall for a business, please htsc@htpd.surrey.sch.uk to book a stall by Wednesday 24 November

Please look out for raffle tickets coming home with your child(ren) which will also include a letter about Donation Day on Friday 26 November.

The letter will also be sent via Parentmail next week. For those who are new to the school, we need some help with getting donations for some of our stalls, and we ask the families to donate a few items. We would like donations of chocolate, bottles (from wine to shampoo), soft toys (clean), 2nd hand-books, preloved Christmas Jumpers (any age/size) and Sweety Sacks (previously known as Jolly Jars/Bags) – decorated paperbags filled with penny sweets & small toys. Paper bags will be available to collect in the lower playground by the noticeboard in the lower playground. These can be brought into school from 26 November. Please note we are not asking you to bring in one of everything per child, just what you have/can donate.

To keep our community as safe as possible, the Winter Fair will be held mostly outside in the lower playground for games and stallholders. We are aware of the British weather and how changeable it can be. If you have a gazebo we would borrow for the event, please could you email htsc@thpd.surrey.sch.uk or let your class rep know? We are looking for around 15-20. We have already had some offers, but we need a few more.

Volunteers for stalls
We will be sending out Sign Up sheets w/c 22 November asking for volunteers to run the stalls on a rota basis. If you are planning to come as a family, please consider lending us 30mins of your time to come and help on a stall – it’s great fun and there will be instructions for how each game works/price etc. We will also need help in the morning to set up, and also in the afternoon to close down.

Easyfundraising
If you are shopping online, one way to support the school is through www.easyfundraising.co.uk and selecting HTSC Holy Trinity School Community as your cause. Over 4000 retailers are affiliated, and every purchase makes a difference.

Dates for your diary
18 November – raffle tickets come home
w/c 22 November – Sign Ups for stalls published
Thursday 25 November @8pm – Winter Craft evening (booked tickets only)
Friday 26 November – donation day
