No. 241

26 November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s so disappointing to be having to adjust our arrangements for Christmas in school for the second year running. I’m sure, like me, you were sad to hear that this year’s productions wouldn’t have live audiences. As always though at HTPD, the children have proved so adaptable and resilient; they took the news well. Despite feeling that it won’t be quite the same, they’re looking forward to being on screen and still on the stage. We’ll be making sure that everyone who appears in the films has permission to take part, and it will then be shared for you all to enjoy at home. Watch out for a parentmail with more information about this.

We’re glad to be able to continue with preparations for the Christmas fair which takes place outside at HT next Saturday 4th. Thank you so much for all the donations that are coming in – there’s still plenty of time next week to send things in (see below for more info). I’m really looking forward to being able to be together as a whole community then; I do hope you are able to come along and enjoy the fun!

Our annual focus at the juniors on a super maths strategy (known as Barvember and taking place throughout the month of November) makes use of the Bar Model to visualise a problem. We’re pleased to see the impact it’s had on maths enjoyment across the year groups, as well as giving children such an effective strategy to use when they’re problem solving. We were delighted to hear that thanks to so many children taking part each day, we were awarded a prize. We’re looking forward to taking delivery of some exciting maths resources – well done to all who took part!

We’re ready to return to Zoom assemblies, no longer feeling that we should meet together as a whole school indoors – and we’ll be lighting the first of our Advent candles on Monday, symbolising the hope of Christmas. It will seem particularly relevant once again this year. Hope is what we hold onto when life goes through its more challenging times. And Christmas itself, with God’s promise of being with us, is also so hopeful. I’ll enjoy starting Advent this Sunday, counting down towards the end of term, towards Christmas, and towards a better year ahead!

Please do continue to be really vigilant about keeping children at home when they show any of the symptoms linked to covid. Lateral flow tests are proving effective at finding asymptomatic cases – let’s do our best to keep the numbers infected as low as possible. With some staff and parents testing positive despite being vaccinated, we’re working hard to reduce contact as much as we can so that school can continue to be fully functioning. Thanks for working hard together on this; hopefully with the return to year group bubbles, the numbers will fall again. We’ll keep in touch as the situation unfolds.

With love,

Thought of the Week: “Don’t give in”. Can you resist temptation?

Online Safety Information Workshop Friday 3 December 2pm
Tom Everard (our online safety designated safeguarding lead) will be holding a (repeat) Zoom meeting to raise awareness of the importance of internet safety for children. The Zoom link will be sent out by ParentMail. It is such an important topic, especially at a time when children may be spending more time on their conputers/online.

Hello Everyone!

This newsletter is mainly about the up-coming fair - we are living and breathing the prep this week! Please do read carefully as we appreciate there’s a lot of information to take in.

Winter Fair – Saturday 4 December 12-2.30pm at Holy Trinity Site
To keep our community as safe as possible, the Winter Fair will be held outside in the lower playground for games and stallholders, entry via Cline Road. We are aware of the British weather and how changeable it can be. If you have a gazebo we would borrow for the event, please could you email or let your class rep know? We are looking for around 15-20. We have already had some offers, but we need a few more.

Donation Day – Friday 26 November onwards
If you were unable to bring in your donations today, the boxes will still be in the Atrium under the ramps (immediately on the left-hand side just inside the glass doors up the steps leading out to Lower playground) via Cline Road entrance. The children are allowed to drop off here until Thursday 2nd December at drop off and pick up. Due to the new Covid measures, please send the children in with your donations. The boxes are all labelled up and there is a separate box for each year group’s hamper.
