Junior Newsletter 21/9

21 September 2012

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed our ‘meet the teacher’ evenings. They are an important part of our on-going opportunities to improve our relationship and communication with you. It is a part of our pledge to make the school as open, friendly and helpful as possible to you as parents. We do try and test every new thing we do by saying ‘how will this affect parents’ and also ‘how will this affect single parents’?  Please let us know if there is any part of our systems or communications that isn’t working well for you.

It was the juniors’ meeting last night. I took the opportunity of going around all the year groups with Tracey explaining just why we had made the move to whole class teaching of maths. It was important to share this information with you as it is a significant change that some disagree with. It was good to have time to lay out our reasons and to give examples of how some maths might now look. I am grateful for Tracey’s insightful contribution. We had planned a 10 minute talk and five minutes questions and I am sorry that the question time was squeezed out.

I am keen to see how all children throughout both sites are progressing by the time of parent meetings in November. We are particularly looking for improved progress in maths at HT and boys’ writing at PD.

I would like to thank you for your trust in our great staff at HTPD. They willingly take on new initiatives and all give of their best to keep your children safe and happy and provided with the best possible education.

With best wishes, Richard

What a brilliant start to the year the girls made at the St. Catherine's Cross country fixture last week. Our Year 4 team all made the top 12 with Eliza Sutton achieving 4th place. The Year 5 team came 2nd overall with Tilly Gough placed 2nd and Isla Miller placed 3rd and our Year 6 team came third overall with Aoife Russell Moore placed 2nd.
