Junior 27/9/13

27 September 2013

Dear Parents,

On Monday evening the parents’ focus group are meeting. This time it is specifically to talk about how the induction into the school worked, what went well and what could be improved upon.

Whether you had a child starting at the infants or the juniors we would like to hear from you. We know that both of these occasions are potentially traumatic for children and frustrating for parents. Our aim is for children to be really comfortable about coming to their new school and have no worries or ‘what ifs’. For parents we want them to be fully confident their child is safe and happy, that communication is good and they know the systems and how they work. We really want to be the best in this important part of school life.

Please email with any thoughts and we will put these into the face to face discussion on Monday evening and may use them next year in our induction programme. It is important to know what went well as well as what went less well.

If anyone has a particular interest in this subject do feel free to join the focus group on Monday night at 7.45 p.m. We will meet in 6SC – the first class you reach at the very top of the ramps in Holy Trinity School. Please enter by the double doors near the staffroom. Ginnie Gregory and Nicola Bridal will be joining me and after some initial sharing altogether we plan to break into three discussion groups.

With best wishes, Richard

Autumn Days A poem by Olive Wickham 4S

Today is Autumn and so is tomorrow,
So I climbed two hills named heart and sorrow,
Wind in my face, soft fluffy flowers,
I stopped and I stayed, viewing for hours
Big bushy tree’s, Autumn brown leaves
Gold in the sun nice for everyone,
No one for miles just me and the hand of god and Autumn

Is your child eligible for free school meals?
Please contact the school office if there is any possibility that your child may be able to receive free school meals or if you would like advice about this scheme and help in making an application. Free school meal registration brings significant funding for the school from the government to support your child’s education in many other ways, through the Pupil Premium scheme and other budget funding factors. Registering for free school meals is of course entirely confidential. Even if you do not wish to take up the free school dinner but choose to send in packed lunches, there are educational benefits for your child if you are registered for free school meals. This needs to be registered immediately as we have to send returns off on next Thursday 4 October.

If you are not receiving Parentmail, please contact the office. Thanks.

Head Lice
There are a few cases of head lice in the school, please refer to www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Head-lice for advice. Many thanks.

We have had a real netball feast this week with 52 year 5 and year 6 girls playing matches this week vs. Queen Eleanor's. There was fantastic participation and it was great to see such activity and enthusiasm from all involved. We had two wins and a loss in both year 6 matches and year 5 matches so well done to everyone. Claire has also offered to run a year 3 netball skills and drills session on Wednesday mornings from 8-8.30pm for those who want to get going!

Look out for details of a girls football club and a 'Change for Life' coming soon.........

Class Reps

We still need class reps in years 3, 4 and 5 please. There are usually two reps per class who provide the vital link between the class & the PTA. The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as the PTA really wouldn’t function without them. We always love to see new faces & hear new ideas, as we know there are new parents coming in, who were involved in their previous school PTA. It is also a great way to find out about the school, how it works and meet other parents. In each Year Group, we aim to have 6 Class Reps - ideally at least 2 per class. The Class Reps in each Year Group work together as a team sharing the Class Rep responsibilities & organising socials for each Year Group as a whole. If you would like to volunteer or would like more information on the role please contact caroline@swifts.me.uk

Class Lists

Please remember to send any updates to the class lists to HTSC@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk by the end of September.

Business Directory

The HTSC Business Directory is now live. You can view it on the HTSC section of the website. This is a new initiative to help to raise funds for the school whilst also helping the parent community to promote their businesses. Any company or sole trader can have their organisation’s name, telephone number, email address and website address mentioned – we are not able to include company logos.

Any parent who currently has or previously had a child at HTPD is eligible to include their details in our directory – for a fee of £15 per school year. Please note, this is a business listing - and the school is not endorsing or recommending any of the businesses listed – but hopefully it will generate work for our parent community. If you would like your business to be included in the directory, please download and complete the attached form and leave it, with the payment, at the school office. Any questions, please email Vanessa@wigwampr.com
